Star Trek Online Science Ship Guide [sciencetechnology-center.blogspot.com]

Science ships in Star Trek Online are different from other ships you can get your hands on. While most players choose other ships due to their better combat capabilities, players who decide to play with science ships are usually more patient and don't mind winning battles in other ways and not only by having more powerful shields of stronger weapons.

Science ships don't have the best weapons, the largest crew compliment or the strongest shields and hull, but they have plenty of other features which make them a formidable opponent indeed. Science ships are more inclined to beat their enemies by tactical planning, discovering weaknesses in other ships by using sensors. One of the best features of these ships is the ability to detect cloaked vessels which greatly help when combating Klingons.

Science vessels in Star Trek also have better auxiliary systems as well as more advanced deflectors which also have a great impact on the outcome of your battles. They ar e great for controlling battles with their various buffs and debuff abilities and are more than welcome in larger fleets as support. Although, that does not mean they can not complete missions or beat opponents on their own; quite the contrary, they are more than capable of doing so.

In larger fleets science vessels are very useful for their vast technical expertise and can air their fellow captains by making their ships more stronger in a lot of areas. They can also help by making enemy ships weaker, and all that is their specialty. There are over a dozen science class ships available to players in STO only in Federation faction, and it depends on their rank. On each rank (level) there are several different available SC ships and each one has their pros and cons.

Question by Katarina: How does the 2010 oil spill effect the science of the earth? I have to do an STSE for grade 9 science, and i was wondering (for the science part) how does the oil spill effect the science (land, chemistry) of the earth. Like not the environment, but the air and land and water. HELP! Best answer for How does the 2010 oil spill effect the science of the earth?:

Answer by Jonathan G
Air - Some groups are burning patches of oil before they reach the shore so that makes pollution. Land - The oil, which is black, will absorb more heat from the sun which will make the area hotter. Water - Pretty obvious, oil kills the animals and blocks sunlight from getting to aquatic plants.

Answer by oldtimer
Exclusive of environment, not much. If the latest guesses are any where near correct on flow rate, (and that is far from guaranteed) the conclusion is that pressures in the Macondo reservoir are higher than any previously discovered. The previous max unhindered flow for a well was just over 32000 b/d. the guess of 1.7 million gallons converts to near 40,500 b/d, a 20% increase. In the meantime, not enough is known about how the well in curently restricted within the BOP. Additionally, that higher rate would only occur after the riser was cut eliminated the crimps, folds and bends in the collapsed riser.

Fundraising Ideas For Science Clubs [sciencetechnology-center.blogspot.com]

Finn has to give a speech at PB's Science bbq and seeks out a quick fix to make himself smarter.

Adventure Time - The Real You / Guardians of Sunshine

Science clubs are one of the neatest groups a student can belong to. Being a part of the club allows for educational opportunities that do not really exist in other areas in life. Things like playing with liquid nitrogen, building an electric motor, doing dissections, and studying rockets are all incredibly fun and educational activities that members get to participate in.

To do them though, the club needs money. Obviously any good science club will have membership fees to cover some of the expenses but, if you want to do big projects, like taking apart an engine or dissecting a shark, you will need to have a fundraiser.

When your group leaders and coordinators meet to pick your fund raising program, they will probably all agree that the fundraiser needs to be fun, easy, and raise a good deal of money. The other criteria that is coming more and more into science club fundraiser discussions is whether or not the fundraiser is educational. Since the entire po int of your organization is to teach the members, why not pick a fundraiser that does the same thing.

Some of the best fundraising ideas for clubs that focus on science are green fundraisers. There are a lot of options available to groups that focus on biology, sustainability, and energy conservation. With each type of fundraiser, a science lesson can be easily integrated.

One of the most popular fundraisers is a plant fundraiser. The plants can be flowers, trees, and even vegetable gardens. The science club can document the growth rates of the various plants and their yield over time. For the vegetable garden fundraisers, club members can also study the effects of different environments on the vegetables production.

Sustainability fundraisers typically focus on items like plastic bag waste reduction. Have your science club study the effects of each bag in the areas of plastic bag waste and its effect on the environment.

Question by Fireworks: How to get started with science when they don't like it to begin with? I'd like to start with beginning science books if possible. Don't want to overwhelm them from the beginning. I would like to ease them into science. They don't like science because the science teacher at their public school wasn't very helpful and left them on their own. The experience just left them very frustrated. Best answer for How to get started with science when they don't like it to begin with?:

Answer by Shea
My advice would be to make it fun. Try some fun experiments and whatnot. Also...learn with them! That way there is no 'oh ask your father. oh ask your mother' thing going on. And just be super helpful and fun and it'll be much easier for them. Dont make them read their books alone, let them take turns reading out loud with eachother. Thats an easier way to keep your mind from wandering, and makes it easier to remember.

Answer by renee70466
What are they interested in? Birds? Bugs? Plants? How things are made? What makes this old thing work? Why did this stop working? All of those things require science. For my son who is interested in how things work I asked on freecycle (look under Yahoo Groups for a group near you) for old broken radios and appliances. He takes them apart and tries to get them working again My oldest is interested in Birds so we birdwatch. She takes pictures of the birds and we look them up online. She then identifies it, finds out where is lives, what it eats and any other information she can get on them and adds it to her bird book. We also use a curriculum from Sonlight for her grade so that she is getting more than bird education. Science is all around you. Cooking is science (chemistry) and Math (use lots of recipes double them and have them figure out how much it needs to double it).

Science Polls Indicate Americans Losing Some Respect For the Lab Coat [sciencetechnology-center.blogspot.com]

Science Polls Indicate Americans Losing Some Respect For the Lab Coat [sciencetechnology-center.blogspot.com]

First, the good news for scientists: Americans respect advancements in science, technology and medicine more than advancements in any other field, other than the always-impressive "don't know." Unfortunately, however, science polls indicate that respect for for the field is dwindling in comparison to others.

Current science polls from the Pew Research center indicate that 27% of Americans think that our nation's greatest achievements are those that take place in beakers, petri dishes and physics labs. While no doubt an impressive number, similar polls from a scant ten years ago suggested that number was nearly 50%. Despite exciting advancements in medicine and technology -- the proliferation of the Internet comes to mind -- it's clear the public doesn't place as high a priority on these sorts of developments as it did in the past.

Perhaps partially explaining the relatively poorer performance of science in polls is the rise of equal rights as an issue of pu blic concern. Ten years ago, just 5% of people felt that it was the most impressive advancement. In the most recent surveys, that number has more than tripled, perhaps spurred by the election of biracial President Barack Obama.

On an optimistic note for science, polls indicate that Americans still have overwhelmingly positive views of it, with 84% replying that they thought it was a net good for society. Only 6% felt it was largely negative. While there aren't past science polls that are exactly comparable, responses have always indicated that, on the whole, Americans are pro-science.

In all, there doesn't seem to be much to worry about for science -- polls indicate that Americans are a long way away from abandoning it in favor of divination or magic. It is interesting, however, that its prevalence in the national consciousness seems to be slightly receding.

In the world of today, technology rules and older more traditional ways of doing things have taken a backseat to the use of computers and the new technologies of the world. Because of this fact, the most useful major for a student of today is one that will ultimately influence the future, Computer Science.

Computer Science is one of the newer majors in the world, mostly because of the rapid advancement of technology of the generations. Computer Science is the present and the future; it is the study of the information and the computations of today's technology. Because it is so new, it incorporates a large number of smaller fields of study such as computer graphics but it also deals with more computing problems such as computational complex theory. The bottom line is that it is what will lead the world into a new age of better technology and a world in which difficult things can be done with great ease.

Computers are the future of the world. Everything is ge tting smaller, but they are also becoming more powerful, more mobile, smarter and easier for the public to use. Almost all those things have to do with Computer Science. Scientists must understand how those things work, how to make them more accessible, how to make them more powerful, and most of all how to improve on a previous work. Cell phones are a perfect example of the rapid evolution of the phone. In the span of my lifetime, 17 years, the phones have from in cars, to portable, to the size of regular phones, to smaller than a regular phone, to thinner, to more powerful, to browsing the internet, and to Bluetooth. All these things, happened in less than 15 years, imagine 15 years from now? How will phones and cars and computers be then? Only the works of Computer Scientists truly tell how far these things can be taken. Without science the world fails to improve technologically. The computer that is stronger and smarter than the human brain, will never be created, cars p lanes and other vehicles fail to get better to help the environment, economy, and everything in between. More advanced machines for medical purposes will never be created, and the current ones never improved. The progression of man will stop. Computer Science is the way of the future.

Computer Science is simply the most important and useful major to humanity today and in the future. Computers have come of age in our generation and humanity should also come of age in this computer generation. Humans are at their best when dealing with computer science, because when one is working on computer science, he or she is working on their future, and the future of families and humans everywhere.

Saas Bina Sasuraal - Episode 376 - 9th July 2012

Some see a conflict between science and religion. Religion has often been opposed to science, when science contradicted some of it's beliefs. On the other hand, some have said that since science cannot prove the existence of God, there should be no religion. The truth is there should be no conflict because they operate in different areas and answer different questions.

Science has to take creation as it finds it. It can never answer the question why. It can only answer the question how. Science involves experiment, observation and theory. Where you can experiment, you do. Chemistry and physics are two scientific fields where you can perform experiments. Astronomy is a science where observation is the only method. Once scientist have conducted their experiments or done their observations, they try to form hypothesis and eventually theories. There are religious groups that find the theory of evolution a threat. it's only a theory, they say. What they don't understa nd is that all scientific truth is theory. Newton discovered the theories of motion. They proved to be true and are used by engineers and scientist everyday. You may have heard them called Newton's laws of motion. But they should have been called Newton's theories because Einstein's theory of relativity showed that though they worked well here on earth in normal circumstances, they were not the whole truth. The theory of evolution is the same. It's a scientific theory that, though true as far as it goes, is subject to revision as new facts emerge.

Religion can never answer the question, how. Once, the Catholic church had the earth at the center of the universe, with hell below and heaven above. When Galileo discovered that it was just one of a number of planets orbiting around the sun, the church threatened him with excommunication or worse if he didn't recant. The church of course was wrong. Religion gets into trouble, when it tries to say how things work in the natur al world. Religion can only answer the question why? Growing up Catholic I remember an early question in religious education. Why did God make me? The answer was God made me to know him, to love him and to be with him forever in heaven. Could that be proven? Could it even be proven that God made me. No! That like all religious dogma has to be accepted on faith. Some scientist might say that since none of it can be scientifically proven, why believe anything. But there is a creation here. The principle by which it works has always been. Scientist seek to discover how it works. They use what they learn to create many wonders. But they can only create, if they follow natures rules. But who or what made it like it is? Who or what made the rules? Why are we here? Why is anything here? Science cannot answer that. That has to be left to religion or philosophy. As humans we seek for knowledge to know our world and how it works but we also seem to need faith. As long as we are always open the truth and not dogmatic all will be well.

Engineering is consistently one of the highest-paid professions. There is a shortage of qualified engineers. Engineers are getting paid $ 50,000/year or more straight out of school because they are trained to solve problems. They design, build, and work on projects with tens- or hundreds-of-millions of dollars, so industry can afford to pay them well.

Answer by »-(¯`v´¯)-» Ð"пﺃмдâ„" â„"o٧ε٢
I would have to guess working with medicine. What I mean by that, is discovering new medicine, diseases, causes, and cures. Because there are so many sicknesses and not enough medicine, a person who discovered a new medication or cure for that disease would get a LOT of money. Earth scientists would also recieve a HUGE salary- because of all the non- renewable resources we are using, and we need renewable ones! All jobs that are high-paid require many years of hard work and dedication- at college of course. I want to be a vaterinarian when I grow up, but the work in college will be unbearable- I am still willing to go throught that because of my love for aniamls. Anyway, what I said about the scientists was pretty much everything you needed to know. I get carried away sometimes when I write- sorry about that.

Answer by smittybo20
You need to look at the future. Today's well paying jobs will soon dead end and they all shift to another area. The best paying job to go for is Renewable Energy and how to improve it. It is really going to boom in the next ten years. It is starting to now. This requires a knowledge of physics, and chemistry. So there are you 2 Fields of work to watch. Medical and the rest are trailing due to the fact of the struggle to create a cleaner, healthier life for us to live in, not just for today, but future generations to come. Check this out for yourself... Go to www.nrel.gov and search on the education and research links. Renewable Energy is in fact going to help save a lot of live's and our environment in the immediate future. More and more scientist are being called upon to help everyday to aid in heating/cooling, fuels, and earth studies. Look at the contracts and what money is being awarded through grants from DOE to fund these studies, then make your decision.

Engineering... Just as previously stated, there is a demand for engineers... now if you can do aerospace, etc. engineering.... even better!

Answer by astatine
The key is to key up with the changes in industry after you graduate, otherwise the world passes by you. I am in the computer field and made over $ 75K in the early 80s. Didn't keep up with the PC and networking phenomena and now make just over $ 50K. Whatever your chosen field is, network, keep abreast with technology, and learn to communicate with all levels of people, and be ambitious. You dont have to be the sharpest tool in the shed - if you're ambitious, hardworking, and take risks the dollars will come.

Answer by eri
1K? A year? A month? A week? Science teachers don't get paid much, typically. Probably a neurosurgeon or anesthesiologist make more than most scientists. But that's because it might take you 20 years to get to that point. In response to someone above - astrophysicists make very little money compared to the 8-12 years of college we got. Starting salaries around 40K for a post-doc - maybe your first 5 years after getting your doctorate. After that, very few make more than a 100K, even at the end of their careers. That's more like starting salary for doctors.

â€" [Science]

Why, everyone knows that science is true and what is unscientific isn't! It's as simple as that. Take it a step further, and we commonly hear that the findings of science are proven, but religious ideas are pi in the sky, myths, completely lacking any credibility and scientific objectivity!

So, what do we mean by science being objective? Do we mean that its goal, as far as possible, is to make sure that its findings shall be free of all bias and impartiality? Hmm, that may be saying something else. Is the modern scientific enterprise - and I have worked in it as a development engineer - completely neutral, with a universal and verifiable reference frame that is totally free of all philosophical thought or influence? You bet - it's not!

Yes, fortunately, aeroplanes normally fly, phones connect and computers crunch numbers, each in ways that fit close enough to the physical reality - great! But then consider also how many people engaged in the sciences assume that naturalism is true - period: nothing is excluded - there are no non-physical entities such as our minds, or ideas like love, truth and beauty, or the existence of a supreme, personal Being. So then is naturalism proven by science? No, it's a philosophical belief.

Look, don't get me wrong; far be it from me to be undermining science, when that's not what I'm trying to do, but I do need to explain what I'm driving at. Let me illustrate this from my book Dawkins' Dilemmas. Here's a summary of part of my argument from chapter seven:

It's a serious dilemma

There is no doubt that Richard Dawkins is a serious thinker, and that somehow he needs to stand outside of his avowed naturalism in order to give an independent evaluation of it as the only final reality there is! Does he do that? Is that sort of assessment within the remit of science? I doubt it; it's an a priori, an assumed starting point, that begs the question.

Dawkins' belief in philos ophical naturalism is his opinion. Sure, he doesn't want you to see it quite like that - that he has already conferred it with the highest accolade of final truth. Why so, what could possibly be embarrassing about that? Quite simply, for starters his naturalism assumes his thinking is only a complex electro-chemical reaction in his brain, unable to transcend its own nature to make finally independent assessments - that naturalism is a true description of objective reality!

Consider Dawkins' view that we build models of the external world, and how that view fits quite well with an older empiricism; that all of our experience or knowledge of the external world comes through the impressions that objects leave on our senses. But it doesn't explain how he enjoys a personal awareness of being part of an objective reality because I am suggesting that his personality already transcends the explanatory power of naturalism. As a consequence, naturalism is unable to give him an a dequate basis for his belief in it as a theory of everything, including himself.

How can you be sure? - An awful dilemma

So he freely admits that he cannot think how to disprove the suggestion of several science-fiction authors that 'we live in a computer simulation, set up by some vastly superior civilisation.' With this sort of fantasy we are now more like three-dimensional hologram images, trapped in a vast computer-simulated virtual reality game. Do you see why Dawkins' isn't sure about reality? When he denies there are no final absolutes, (except, perhaps his belief in the truth of naturalism and atheism) he has no way of telling the difference between an objective reality and a make-believe one.

Now, in Dawkins' view, we might or might not be like the toys beginning to talk to one another on Christmas Eve! And he's not sure which. Do you know what? Denial of final truth always leads to profound uncertainty, which, when you consider it, is what you might expect. And if Dawkins is unsure whether he's in a real reality, or a complex, computer-simulated one, what chance has he got of showing us that his atheism or his naturalism are real explanations of the ultimate reality?

Alas, Dawkins' ambivalent thinking leads him into serious confusion and dilemmas for which his atheism has no resolution. Why is that? Atheism isn't science.

The ultimate paradox

Yes, if the whole universe had no final meaning - just like the computer-simulated sub-reality - we would never have been able to make such a startling discovery! (Do you get it? - 'no final meaning,' a universal negative equals a type of 'final meaning'!) But, if on the other hand, the universe does possess final meaning, is the model inside Dawkins' head sufficiently developed to present naturalism or atheism as final meanings; I mean, how would he ever know? In comparison, the Christian position shows that following the Fall the natural thinki ng of humanity has become subject to confused futility. And without revealed answers, we are left with the random, meaningless whirling of our cerebral molecules, and personal unbelief.

Winding up this brief discussion, the ultimate paradox helps us to see that the very idea of final meaning - which if there were none, we would never have found out - only makes sense if there is final meaning: a final meaning paradoxically denied by atheism, but secured by the rational, living God revealed in Christian theism, the Creator of an understandable reality. So, are your views of science and the interpretations of the physical universe grounded in some sort of philosophy? Absolutely!

Saas Bina Sasuraal - Episode 318 - 10th April 2012

For so long science has been considered as a subject but in the 21st century science will be relative to individuals "mental illuminatory wave length". Science is more than a subject. It is knowledge made possible by a mind quality which researches, explores and unveils the nature, behaviour and operational dynamics of matter.

Everything operates on a science. The science of matter is the hidden dimension of the nature of matter which defines its behaviour and operational dynamics. "Deep calls for deep" is the scientific revelation of the 21st century.

The 'deep' of matter is the hidden dimension of the nature of matter which defines its behaviour and operational dynamics. The 'deep' of man, is the hidden dimension of the human mind, which possesses illuminatory strength which can perceive and understand the hidden dimensions of matter without practical experiments or laboratory activities.

This implies, the scientific breakthroughs of the 21st centur y will be products of scientific minds which can ascend into knowledge without pre- experimental activities.

Thus, the laboratory of the 21st century science will not be buildings with instruments for experiments but human minds.

The human mind: This is the seat of true science. The human mind is the largest component of the human soul. Its abilities are beyond human physiological comprehension. In fact, it is the most unexploited realm of human existence.

The human mind possess abilities which when released in full efficacy, can affect the world positively in all areas. The human mind possesses illuminatory strength which can penetrate into the core of matter, bringing out the hidden dimensions of its operative dynamics.

The mind is the greatest research center with four powerful faculties. Creative, thinking, reasoning imaginative faculties. Each of these faculties possesses infinite and unlimited capabilities and can operate in relativity with othe rs for maximum productivity.

When the human mind is developed through illumination and regeneration, the four faculties of the mind begin a journey of equal and relative operation for maximum exhibition of mental exactitude. At this level the hidden dimensions of matter can be assessed without any form of physical experimental activities. This is the breakthrough which awaits humanity in the 21st century.

With respect to this concept, the scientific focus of the 21st century will be based on mind illumination and regeneration through the impact of positive and quality knowledge. As human minds develop in their "illuminatory wave length", scientific evolutions and revolutions will be the natural outcome.

The limitations of experimental science: This is the science which depends on experiments for its conclusive analysis. It has given birth to scientific breakthroughs which are characterized by constant errors and failures because most experimental analysis a re not 100% accurate, but based on trial and error. Many people are dying from plane crash, medical side effects, etc. There are so many imbalances and errors with virtually every scientific breakthrough of the 20th century.

Humanity must leave the trial and error scientific tactics to science based on exactitude. This breakthrough will be relative to the degree of mental illumination and exactitude.

Scientific exactitude: This is a scientific dimension based on mental exactitude in scientific analysis. Exactitude is a level of accurate or exact analysis based on "hyper illumination". This degree of illumination is not possible without Divine knowledge. Divine knowledge is the infinite omniscient dimension of knowledge equal and relative to the infinite dimension of the mind. It contains the original principles which define all of life's operative dynamics.

When the human mind develops into higher mental altitudes based on illumination, its creativity and p roductivity becomes exact. This is the base of the 21st century scientific revolution.

Science, as I do not know engineering. BS ( or, BSc ) degrees will require at least two semesters of calculus and two semesters of physics. Chemistry and other areas, depending on you major. Plus all the division requirements for social science and humanities. You may even need an hour of PE in California.

Answer by hmata3
Yep. You need Calculus II, II, and III, with Differential Equations. In Science, you will need physics and chemistry. Then you need to satisfy core classes set by the state you are in. Depending on your engineering classes, you will need to take classes specific to the branch of engineering you are taking. I am a Mechanical Engineer, so I took classes focused on heat transfer, mechanical design, and metallurgy.
