Science Fair Project Ideas - How to Choose a Winning Topic [sciencetechnology-center.blogspot.com]

Science fairs become more competitive every year. In order to be successful and catch the judge's eye, your project will need to stand out from the rest. Knowing how to evaluate good science fair project ideas is the first step in achieving a winning experiment idea.

When choosing an appropriate topic it is important to first consider the difficulty level of the project and the student's capabilities. Do not choose a topic that will be too difficult for your child to understand and complete. It is better to take a less difficult topic and turn it into a excellent, well researched experiment that your child will feel confident in presenting to the judges. If your child doesn't understand the concepts that have gone into the experiment it will quickly show when they discuss the project during judging.

After you select a topic that you think you may want to pursue, you will need to think about the materials that will be needed for the experiment. Eve n the best topics will be wasted if the proper materials are not available to use.

Think about the organization that will be needed to perform the science fair project from beginning to end. How much time will you need to complete each step? Don't start a project a week before the science fair, if it is something that involves a growing process, or checking results over a period of weeks.

Science fair project ideas are endless. But, it is necessary to put time into deciding on a topic that will not only be do-able for your child, but will also wow the judges. Take the time to spend helping your child successfully complete an experiment to be proud of, and have fun doing it.

Both Computer Science and Information Systems degrees at Illinois State are CAC/ABET-accredited. All employers will accept these degrees. Illinois State gets a respectable "B" rating from the ACTA Education Foundation.
