Question by : What kind of animal science major should an incoming freshman apply for? Animal health science (vet tech) OR animal science pre-vet sci/grad school option? I'm applying for cal poly Pomona right now and i'm not sure which one is for freshmen.. i'm guessing the second one is for older students only? Best answer for What kind of animal science major should an incoming freshman apply for?:

I am a student at Cal Poly Pomona right now--my major is Animal Science Pre-Vet. If you want to be a veterinarian and move on to grad school for another four years after, do the same thing I am doing. If you like small animals, and just want to work with them, then I recommend animal health science. We also have lots of great clubs for both majors! So you can have experience with both majors :) AHSTA and Pre-Vet club are the primary ones--I am involved with the livestock show team, which is much smaller of a club but works with much bigger animals! Wonderful school, HIGHLY recommend it--Just FYI Dr. Fonda is a GREAT Professor, if you are choosing your AVS classes, go with him! GOOD LUCK!!!! Oh another PS! When picking a dorm pick Encinitas...That's where I live they are really nice and right in the center :) Email me if you have any more questions!!!

If you want to be a veterinarian, do the vet-tech program first. You'll be trained to assist veterans, and you'll be able to talk to vets who are already in the field to see how it's like. And if you like it, you could always transfer to a 4 year school and continue your studies.

if you have chance, please change your mind in becoming a vet I am a animal crazy loving girl who would die for my pet I wanted to become a vet all my life, and this summer i did a volunteered at a local vet a very good one too During the 1 months of volunteering, i learned a lot, BUT its definitely not something that i would do for rest of my life you have to stick fingers in the butt to pop the anal glands have to talk about money with the owners (this is bit annoying , i realized) take care of receptions, vet-techs touch sick animals, dont even know if they will heal ...i mean i saw 2 dogs die while doing their dentals not a surgery but dentals... heck... Try volunteering for just a month you will know what i am talking about there are millions of humans dieing out there there is no time to spend money on animals, just leave them for mother nature to take care of it Plus the statistics show 80% of all vets, quit their job and do something else in less the 5 years you probably should wonder why....

Do pre-vet sci, because vet-tech I doesn't mean you've even in a four year program (although at pomona you might), but pre-vet is way better to be a vet. (In response to Racheals answer, yes human die, that is mother nature's way for them too and just because you go around telling people to be doctors does not mean there will be even more doctors (that depends on the number of people that colleges accept, not the number of people that want to do it.)) Sorry about that rant, but anyway Lindsay's answer definately seems to tell you what you need to know.

It's very tough to get in. Cal Poly Pomona is one of the best CSUs
"Taanya is a beautiful, intelligent and multi-faceted computer science student in Mumbai. As she is about to pass out of college, her parents begin to talk about her marriage. That's when she tells them that she likes a boy called Tej and wants to marry him. Tej also loves her but is reluctant to accept the proposal because of a problem in his family. While he does not want to cheat her by keeping the truth from her, he is scared of losing her if he tells her about his family's problem. His friends try to convince him that every family has some problem so he need not even mention it to Taanya. Finally, when Tej and Taanya's families meet, there seems to be no problem and the proposal is mutually agreed upon. A grand wedding takes place and Taanya arrives in her sasuraal. The moment of shock come when all the rituals and ceremonies are over and the guests are all gone. Taanya realizes that Tej's household is full of men, just men. All the chachis, mamis, buas etc who attended the wedding had all gone and she was the only woman in the house. Taanya does not know how to handle this. Though in college days she was never uncomfortable among boys and she grew up with a brother, this was another feeling altogether. A life always surrounded by only men -- all strangers to begin with -- looks unimaginable. She stays put anyways but within twenty four hours she realizes that these men are like pebbles on a beach -- all different from each other and rubbing each other sour. She ...
Have you ever thought about a science project and immediately think of test tubes and a scientist with a long white lab coat, goofy glasses and a bed-head hairdo?
Most people do think of this when they think of science and when all of a sudden children are asked to do a science project you become immediately panic stricken.
Many scientists work outside with soil and water and do tests everyday using agriculture. As a matter of fact many people do science experiments daily without evening thinking about them. Have you ever put one plant at an East window and one at a North window to see which window is the best for growing your flowers? You just did a science project experiment. It was a simple project. How about planting some plants in a hanging basket and some in the ground to see how this plant thrives the best. Maybe you grow a garden and planted some seeds directly in the garden and started some inside. These are all ways people actually do science proj ects daily without even thinking about it. When we lose weight we are experimenting with carbs, fat grams, sugar and testing a theory on ourselves to see what combination makes excess weight come off.
Children are staying inside more and more and do not realize the importance of the agriculture around them. There are easy simple science projects that can be done with soil or plants or seeds.
Here is a simple project for children:
Get a package of seeds from a dollar store You need 4 pots or containers Soil or dirt Apple juice Milk Vinegar Water and dishwashing liquid Cheap inexpensive notebook from dollar store Marker to mark pots #1, #2, #3, #4 Your question could be "Can plants grow with other liquids than water only?" Choose which one you think will work the best.Place the soil/dirt in each of the 4 containers and plant the same number of seeds in each pot. Place the pots in the same location with the same light and temperature. Now water one pot with vinegar Water one pot with apple juice Water one pot with milk Water one pot with water mixed with 1 tbsp dishwashing soap
IT'S THAT EASY! Now get your notebook and label each page with a new day. Every day record what you see from each plant and list when you water the seeds and how much. You will want to give each pot the same amount of liquid as the others so use a measuring cup. When the seeds germinate record that.
After 2 to 3 weeks explain if seeds can grow in other liquids and which liquid worked the best.
