Question by : No science background but want to start learning about science for my future. Is it too late? I have limited science knowledge, currently studying economic in University. I would like to become a dermatologist to help others with their skin problems. Is it too late to start studying science, then apply for med school? No, it's never too late. There are people in their late 30s and early 40s that start taking medical school prerequisites and apply to medical school, even. Most medical schools are looking for the following prerequisite courses: 1 year of biology with labs (6 in-class credits, 2 credits of lab) 1 year of general chemistry with labs (6 in-class credits, 2 credits of lab) 1 year of organic chemistry with labs (6 in-class credits, 2 credits of lab) 1 year of physics with labs (6 in-class credits, 2 credits of lab) 1 semester of statistics (You've probably got this covered as you're an economics major) Calculus 1 may also be required, but it really isn't that different from business calculus, which you've probably already taken. So, as a maximum (excluding statistics, since I'm assuming you already have that), you would need to take a total of 36 credits to fulfill the medical school pre-requisites. That's about 2 full-time semesters of coursework. You'll also need to take the MCAT (and study like crazy for it), but a lot of the content will be covered in the pre-requisite science courses you take anyway.
