The greatest blessing to humanity is the advent of Science for bringing social prosperity through spread of knowledge and education. Science has helped man to the sky, measure the depth of oceans and wrest from nature many of her hidden treasures. In recent times, it has transformed human life beyond all imagination. Through its advanced inventions and discoveries, Science has cast its great effects on social life of the human and removed sufferings, ignorance and hardship. Science has extended the frontiers of knowledge of society in various ways and in various directions. It has enabled man to fight natural calamities and to revolutionise industrial and agricultural processes.

The level of education has greatly improved with the help of Science. Now people are more aware and want to know more and more about the latest happenings all round the world. In the modern era of Science, greater emphasis is being given to television in educational, social and moral sphe res. Now it has become possible for man to sit in the cosy confines of his living room and watch the latest happenings of the world from his home. The expantion of education through television has been tremendous. Moreover, it has a great educative value. As on date, there are various programmes run by University Grants Commission to teach various subjects through the media of television. If proper methods are adopted, various subjects like Chemistry, Physics, English, Commerce and Mathematics etc., can be very well taught through television programmes. The students also gain a lot from such lessons taught in the form of pictures relating to various topics.

The subject matter taught on television has a more enduring and effective impression on the minds of the viewers. Further, it is all the output of the experienced teachers who understand the problems faced by students who pursue education along with their jobs or cannot afford to go to a regular college. In a large country like India, where most of the population is uneducated, the role of science in dissemination of education through television cannot be denied.

Science has also contributed the most advanced and well equipped laboratories for students to learn and conduct practicals. The launching of INSAT and other communication satellites in the space has given further fillip to the cause of education. Now the boundary of a state or a country is not the limit to get qualification of a particular university. The student can go through various courses through satellite - run programmes. The greatest and most significant achievement of science in this regard is launching internet. The internet has brought about a big revolution in the world of education and information. The click of the mouse can help him access a world of information in a matter of seconds.

With the help of Science, even the minute details of any kind of information or data is recorded wither on cassettes, disks or printed in any kind of books. The libraries of the schools, colleges and universities are full with latest books and journals on all subjects topic wise. A student can opt to go through any subject either on computer, or by going through a book. He has all the options available with him. Science has given him options to study various new fields in the research and development of science itself.

Science has helped the students to travel all across the world not only for pleasure but to educate himself about various wonders of nature and see historical places. He can avail the facility of cars, trains, ships and aeroplanes and reach his destination in time. Even he can talk to any relative or friend living in any part of the world at any moment of the day or night. Thus he has no tension and can concentrate better on his studies. A student can complete a work of months and years in a matter of hours. Communication and transport have really made the life of stud ents more comfortable.

All other forms of entertainment have been brought to the door of the student by Science, Radio, television and cinema is helping the student in relieving the daily tensions of life by providing him the best and affordable entertainment. Surely, the daily life of students is very different and has improved a lot with the inventions of Science. Truly, Science is unlimited knowledge for a student and is going to be an eternal source of new blessing in the cause of spread of education across all horizons of the world.

Question by Nick S: What science experiment can be done with a vehicle? I have to do some kind of science experiment and have a Toyota 4Runner. Does anyone have any suggestions for an advanced level high school science experiment? Best answer for What science experiment can be done with a vehicle?:

Answer by c2builder
How about measuring the forces on the 4Runner which determine its miles/gallon. Principally those forces are the Rolling Resistance and Aerodynamic Drag. The rolling resistance is almost a constant and is determined by the tire type, how much it's inflated, the nature of the road (sand vs asphalt for instance), and the weight of the car. Tires are given a value called "RRC", rolling resistance coefficient, though it may be tough to find the value for your tires. It may be easier to measure it. The aerodynamic drag is a function of the cross sectional area of the car, a value Cd (Coefficient of Drag) representing the sleekness of the shape, and the square of the air speed. The rolling resistance and aero drag form a simple polynomial. You could find it by measuring the deceleration at several speeds (car in neutral. use a stopwatch etc). You could then alter the weight (your friends) or change the tire pressure etc. This project would have some relevance to your life-after-project; you'd understand a lot about what makes an efficient car design. Wikipedia and Google can help you find information on these terms. Electric car books usually describe these forces too since they are trying to be so efficient.

If your Toyota has a sunroof you could shoot a ball out of the top while maintaining speed, and video as it falls back in perfectly demonstrating Newton's Law. Then you could put something in the back of your car on top of carbon paper, make sharp turns (measure the angle of each turn in a parking lot first), and after each turn mark the trajectory of the object. Use it to show evidence of forces and trajectory, and as an additional application link it to centripetal force (things spun in a circle are held there by centripetal force (pull away from the center) and when let go they launch in a trajectory. Items in a car will also ride along the same Linear direction regardless of if you turn (they continue to go in the direction you were previously going rather than turning with t he vehicle). Both are Newton's Law an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by by something of equal or greater force. It is also related to trajectory and vectors. Work some video tape, measurements, and formulas in, and you have a project. If you don't like that idea, you could do something involving distance, acceleration, and time. Make up your own word problems using data from your car, and do them to prove that the formulas work. Good Luck!

I've heard of using excess heat from the engine to cook food wrapped in tinfoil and placed under the hood. that would be fun and something tangible for the teacher to chew on... Maybe heat up a recipe for apple crisp. (a box of yellow cake mix, a stick of butter and a can of apple pie filling)....throw it all in some tinfoil container and drive vehicle for X number of miles to obtain a temp of X for X number of minutes. I gotta go...NOW I'm hungry. Have fun!

I think some kind of fuel economy experiment would be interesting. If there's a route that usually has the same amount of traffic between gas stations (ideally, no traffic, but maybe you don't live near a rural area), you could fill up at one gas station, drive under two different circumstances, and then see how much gas you need to fill up at the second gas station. You could try each trial a few times and average the results, although that would be rather wasteful of gas. Ideas for "different circumstances": - Find the optimal speed for fuel efficiency. Typically this is ~50 mph for most cars, but might be different for your 4Runner. You could try a few different speeds on a stretch of highway: 40, 50, 60, 70 mph (if you're ok with slightly breaking a speed limit. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/driveHabits.shtml - I've wondered, myself, whether having the air conditioning on or having all the windows down (for cooling) gives the greater fuel economy. A/C draws power that doesn't go into motion, but having the windows down increases drag on the car. For a not especially aerodynamic car like a 4runner, though, I'd predict that having the windows down wouldn't make as much of a difference as the A/C. If you were to do this, you would probably do a run with neither A/C nor windows down, too. Of course if you're in a cold place right now, this might be out of the question, but you could still compare fuel economy with or without A/C (heat+A/C, probably). How much does the A/C hurt your fuel economy? - See how much "traffic density wave breaking" increases fuel economy. e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGFqfTCL2fs though this would be more subjective and traffic-dependent. You'd probably have to run a few trials with and without leaving an eccentrically large distance between the person in front of you. - Tire pressure. How much difference does full inflation make on fuel economy? Some of these don't really get at basic physical principles very directly, but what you'd do is to explain how energy is lost in the various fuel-wasting ways. Have fun. And if you find something interesting, try to spread the word as much as you can!
