Third grade science projects can be a lot of fun and a great learning experience for the students. In third grade, students are at the age where they are exploring the world around them and learning how things work, so projects that answer the question "What happens if...." are great for this age. Students will likely be able to come up with a question to answer on their own, but will need help organizing their project and doing the actual project, as well as reporting their findings afterwards.
A fun 3rd grade science project might be to see if cut flowers will last longer in warm water or cold water. You can do this by getting half a dozen carnations and two vases. Put cold water into one vase with three flowers, and warm water into the other vase with the other three flowers. You just need to monitor them and see which ones last longer, the ones in the cold water or the ones in the warm water.
Other fun third grade science projects can be to see if water proof mascara is really water proof. You can do this by getting a white sheet of paper and several different brands of mascara that claim to be water proof, and then put some of each brand onto the paper and run it under some water for a few seconds to see which ones stay and which ones run on the paper. Then, you record your findings so you can see which mascara brands are really the waterproof product they claim to be.

A BSc in that area would likely be more to do with the hardware and software aspects of digital media. So it is would involve some serious math, computer science and the like. A B.A. would be more to do with the human and creative aspects of the topic.

Lucky you! You'll need both science & art courses as photography is actually a blend of the two. Things like lighting, aperture, & distance would require your science knowledge. Composition, posing, & getting the best angle will lean on your creativity. You'd want to review your options with an admissions counselor to determine the best courses to take. Also, if you could intern with a professional photographer, that would give some good exposure. I've heard UCLA offers an excellent Cinema Arts program also.
