Obtaining a science degree doesn't necessarily lead to careers in laboratories. Some science degree recipients might work in test kitchens or out in the field. Depending upon the subcategory of the degree that students select and the place where they find employment, they also have the potential to earn more than $ 100,000 per year.

Some students with science degrees work as agricultural and food scientists. Students who obtain agricultural and food science degrees might work in agriculture and food production, helping to find ways for farms to operate in a more cost effective manner while keeping pests and weeds in check. Still others who obtain agricultural and food science degrees might work to develop food products, including healthy foods, or methods such as preserving and storing foods that are produced.

Obtaining an agricultural and food science degree can also lead to work as a soil, animal or plant scientist. Depending upon the type of work gr aduates in this field enter, they might work in laboratories, test kitchens or outdoors. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) anticipates faster than average growth for agricultural and food scientists who work to restrain the negative effects that agriculture can have on the environment as well as for those who work to create new products by combining biology with technology as part of what's known as biotechnology.

As a growing population calls for more food and more healthy foods, the employment growth for agricultural and food scientists between 2008 and 2018 is expected to be 16 percent, the BLS reports. Those who graduated in July 2009 with bachelor's degrees in animal, plant and other agricultural sciences were offered starting salaries that averaged $ 33,456 to $ 34,699 per year, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Federal government work in different areas can lead graduates with these types of science degrees to earn more than $ 100,000, information from the BLS suggests.

Biological scientists, on the other hand, study living things and how they relate to the environment. Their aim: To help solve health conditions in humans and enhance the natural environment. Biological scientists include botanists, zoologists and ecologists. Marine biologists, perhaps some of the best known biologists, fill a small specialty in the field, according to the BLS.

The employment growth for biological scientists between 2008 and 2018 is expected to be 21 percent, which is much faster than the average for all occupations, the BLS reports. Driving the growth is growth of the biotechnology industry, according to the agency. Another factor with regard to employment growth is the environment - and attempts to find new and better ways for enhancing and preserving it, according to the agency.

Students who plan to work in this area might have to continue their education as far as a PhD if they plan to carry out independent research, which could be competitive at colleges and universities, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There are likely to be greater chances for positions in sales, marketing, management and publishing for those who obtain bachelor's and master's degrees, the agency notes. Students who obtained biological and life science degrees at the bachelor's level were offered starting salaries in 2009 that averaged $ 33,254 per year, the National Association of Colleges and Employers reports. Zoologists working for the federal government in 2009 earned average annual salaries of nearly $ 117,000.

Question by : How do judges pick science fair winners? My little cousin wants to win the science fair and wants some tips. How do they pick the winner? Thanks! :) Oh, BTW at my cousins school you have to do a science project and it is counted as Homework. Best answer for How do judges pick science fair winners?:

Answer by JerryJ
Originality and subject knowledge. A science project should demonstrate that the student knows about the subject and for a bonus the more original it is, the better--but it's the knowledge of the subject that is the most important part.
