An Introduction to Health Sciences [sciencetechnology-center.blogspot.com]
Question by PrognosticInflux: What do you think is more dangerous to society, science or religion? I canât really come up with a definitive answer here. Science is responsible for global warming, the atomic bomb and possibly some viruses! Yet religion is responsible ignorence, wars and instabilities within countries, like Iraq. P.S. I love all things science, but I donât want that to cause any biases in my decision, so give your opinion. Best answer for What do you think is more dangerous to society, science or religion?:

A militant fundamentalist with a nuclear weapon.

I am not sure science is really responsible for global warming. Science is just factual, it doesn't really apply that bias. People apply the bias. Religion is by far the most insidious problem for humans in my opinion because it give them a false sense of their own eternal value; consequently precluding them from learning to find healthy ways of vieing the world from the perspective that we really are not personally that valuable and important. Which leads to healthier beliefs in my experience. Religious people are forever trying to become more valuable human beings intead of trying to live realistic, practical, compassionate lives.

Science and religion try to answer the truth. Both ways are determined by the masses of people who think its correct. For me, both of these are dangerous to society. Both seem to say that their way is the right choice while the other side could be right too.

I think religion, in science every discovery, even the bad ones, has something good to go along with it. Even the atomic bomb, that was a terrible discovery but what if we didn't know about it and someone set it off by accident? In religion people are clinging to something that doesn't exist and depend on something that won't help them, there is nothing good about religion so science is the best of the two.

That's like asking whether the gun maker or the gun owner is more dangerous. Knowledge is power. Maybe we should both thank science for the knowledge and apology for our misuse of it. Nobody can thank religion for ignorance because they don't really know they are.

i think religion is definitely more harmful than science. People are not often killed for liking or believing in science but for religion people all around the world are discriminated and killed everyday. On the same subject those people sometimes do the same thing. Science is described by most as being wonder and the solution to a problem i.e. the glaciers are melting but scientist placed sheets of magnifying material on them to keep them from melting. In science you c an learn a lot and ponder about a lot

I'm a science fan and an atheist but I feel people can misuse anything they have access to. However: I don't believe there's such a thing as militant science, just people who use the knowledge unwisely. I do believe there is militant religion and it cannot use any knowledge wisely.

Religion has been used as an excuse for horrific acts and violence (wars, violence against woman). Science gone too far can also impact us negatively (viruses, generation of Ipod, tvs). However, both are necessary and beautiful so there must always be a balance and it starts with all of us.

Religion is just a word for 'devotion'. The only dangerous thing in society is neither. Instead it is wherever there is found unrighteous domino, in other words, abuse of power. Abuse of power is as highly committed in the fields of science as in religion or anywhere else. In fact when any thing begins as a good thing, any converting over to abuse of power is what turns it cult. A pimp, a bully, sibling rivalry, Putting the Book of Revelations after 3 John when it was when 3 John was written afterward, the Mafia, the Waco cult situation, blackmail, self-abuse and self-sabotage, The FDA making a law stating 'only a drug can cure a disease', The FTC, big pharma, fining Kevin Trudeau 37 million dollars for claiming a diet is easy,.. one that I am on, and is actually, easy, Abuse of power is the source of all selfishness and ignorance--a bad thing. It obliterates self-reliance, the opposite of selfishness, and the root of all co-dependence. But if you think religion is where the majority of the ignorance is, think again, because where any of the above abuse take places, an attempt at sick secrecy and obstruction to true information is the plan of attack for any abuse of power, creating a soap opera and a power struggle. Religion is not more prevalent with this, I think bid pharma is, and I know the medical field is so full of holes I can't even list them here. Religion is not a place to scrutinize too harshly..every opportune corner has to be watched for the temptation to abuse self, power, and position and access. An abuser can be devoted religiously to his enabler and enabler to his perpetrator. Watch the movie 'Remains of the Day' and feel all the joy flow right out of your veins. The nature of loyalty to stupidity is a hold I don't understand, and creates losses that aren't worth it. Devotion to loyalty however it is applied--even to abuse--is the dumbest thing a person can do. But devotion to something productive instead of counter-productive, that is loyalty placed well.

Neither science nor religion is a danger to society. The danger is in the motive or motives of those behind the science or religion. Science -- the scientific method -- is just a process of asking questions, testing hypotheses and coming up with potential answers to explain, clarify and predict what we observe. Religion -- faith in God (in whatever form) and an overarching plan for mankind -- provides peace of mind, promotes love of others, gives meaning to aspects of life that science cannot test and therefore explain. AGENDAS are dangerous to society.

errr...science is responsible for global warming?? where did you get that? i would say society is responsible for global warming. if we don't pollute so much ,or breed so much such taht the world is over-populated, or remember to turn the lights off and save energy, then we won't be in this mess! btw science is now solving ways to reduce global warming (ex. methods to reduce co2 concentration in atmosphere), so it's not correct to say science causes global warming. it's our habits!

Okay, So you think SCIENCE is responsible for the atomic bomb? Well first of all you must understand theres a reason behind every other reason, knowing that: What was the reason they created the atomic bomb? Caused by a war, which in your eyes was caused by religion. Science is not responsible for that, and if you do look at it like that then you can say science is also responsible for every other thing in the world, because ... SCIENCE - systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation. We use science for everything. You can't blame science..you can compare that to..blaming 'books' for all the bad books out there. get it? Religion on the other hand, is responsible for horrible things, more the church though, needless to say. But religion forces people to feel guilty, and increases emotional stress which is something noone needs in today's world. People also tend to lose trust in themselves, and become less independent which is a horrible thing to see in someone.
You often hear the words 'health science' lately. Although the practice existed eons ago, this word which was only recently acknowledged as a field altogether has become a well-demanding major to venture into. But what exactly is it?
First of all, let us study the roots of those words. There are many aspects of which health can be referred to. A person's health is not just measured by how fit they are physically or how well they are growing according to the trends; health can also be measured by how satisfied they are with their lives, how they are able to function normally in society, and even how they process their thoughts. On the other hand, science refers to a systematic study that confirms testable laws. When the words health and science are put together, It would be referred to as a systematic study to confirming the laws to do with health. For simplicity sake, the study of health science is the study and research of health-related issues.
The study of health science is a rather general field, which either looks into our intake of nutrition, or our human function of sorts. Sometimes overlapping with one another, both nevertheless aims to improve or maintain the wellbeing of our health with the knowledge of the areas obtained. Some examples of specializations are dietetics, phytotherapy, nutrition, environmental and occupational health, medicine, health education, audiology, speech therapy and others.
As issues regarding the health of mankind are being paid much attention to these says, the study of health science is becoming more well accepted. Hence, there is always an opening in positions if you look at the right places. In addition, having a PhD in this field would bring you far in the field you venture into. A PhD in Health Science equips you with the knowledge and credentials to work in a specialized field in allied sciences. You will basically learn how to critically analyze and evaluate the issues that aris e in the field, which could bring about progress and development to the general health.
