My advice would be to make it fun. Try some fun experiments and whatnot. Also...learn with them! That way there is no 'oh ask your father. oh ask your mother' thing going on. And just be super helpful and fun and it'll be much easier for them. Dont make them read their books alone, let them take turns reading out loud with eachother. Thats an easier way to keep your mind from wandering, and makes it easier to remember.

What are they interested in? Birds? Bugs? Plants? How things are made? What makes this old thing work? Why did this stop working? All of those things require science. For my son who is interested in how things work I asked on freecycle (look under Yahoo Groups for a group near you) for old broken radios and appliances. He takes them apart and tries to get them working again My oldest is interested in Birds so we birdwatch. She takes pictures of the birds and we look them up online. She then identifies it, finds out where is lives, what it eats and any other information she can get on them and adds it to her bird book. We also use a curriculum from Sonlight for her grade so that she is getting more than bird education. Science is all around you. Cooking is science (chemistry) and Math (use lots of recipes double them and have them figure out how much it needs to double it).
