Question by : How come so many people put their faith in science? 1. Science doesn’t know everything there are many things that even after all of these years science cannot explain. 2. Science often contradicts itself. Some studies have found that certain things are beneficial to your health where as other studies have found that the same things can be detrimental to your health. But yet, certain people still put their faith or whatever they call it in science and scientists hoping that they are right. It really seems like a lot of wishful thinking. Best answer for How come so many people put their faith in science?:

Answer by Narathzul Arantheal
Oh, I don't know. Maybe because science is based on evidence and self-correcting. In any case: 1) Science doesn't ask for your faith, nor do you need any faith in it. Everything in science is independently verifiable which is the whole beauty of it. That's the opposite of faith. 2) Nobody has ever claimed science knows everything. Indeed science is a methodology, not an entity capable of knowing or not knowing things. Science is a way of getting at what is true, a demonstrably effective way at that. 3) If you think science contradicts itself, you don't understand science. In the specific example of whether something is healthy or not, there's a lot of error and jumble in the data because the relationship between what you eat and your health is complicated and it's difficult if not impossible to hold all other variables constant. That's why looking at individual studies in those areas don't show anything. Instead, scientists look at a large number of studies and do meta-analyses on them to eliminate these errors, randomness, and other factors affecting the results. The kind of journalism "New study finds X is healthy/unhealthy" is based on a misunderstanding of science and results partly from the fact that journalists don't know enough science but also partly from the fact that journalists often just want quick stories.

"faith" = without evidence "science" = *with* evidence these terms are completely polar.

Answer by JD
Your argument is incredibly vague. 1- science has made a lot more discoveries and is continuing to do so, what else has done more? 2- Science does not contradict itself most of the time, somethings are bad AND good in different ways, that's not a contradiction.

Because it works.

Answer by Hellbound Tyâ„¢: Excellent!
I don't put my faith in science. You don't need faith when something has evidence for it. You're using the internet. A product of science. You have a telephone, a television, electricity, modern medicine, a car...All products of science.

Answer by pwned
There is no faith in science. NOW RELIGION has faith to believe in something that has 0 evidence thats faith.

1. Science doesn’t know everything there are many things that even after all of these years science cannot explain. the bible explains basically nothing. and science has never and will never claim to know everything. the point of science is discovery. the things science does claim it has evidence for, there is reasoning. no evidence or reasoning in the bible 2. Science often contradicts itself. Some studies have found that certain things are beneficial to your health where as other studies have found that the same things can be detrimental to your health. Example? i have a rough idea of how to refute but it's easier to refute specifics than generalizations

1. We know that, that's why scientists are still employed-because there is stuff we don't know yet! 2. That's what peer review is for. Also have you noticed that your computer isn't run on God, karmic hippy crystals, Vodoo dolls or Tarot cards? Science works, that's why!

Answer by King of Hearts 4
1) which branch of science? The scientific method is a pretty damn good way of explaining the world. 2) Science contradicts itself because some corrupt politicians pay to have studies done and then have the data skewed in favor of their product. Independently done studies are more reliable. It's not faith. Hard evidence is not 'wishful thinking'. I would say a being that grants all of your wishes in the afterlife is more along the lines of 'wishful thinking' than science.

"1. Science doesn’t know everything there are many things that even after all of these years science cannot explain." And science will continue to collect data until it can find answers. "2. Science often contradicts itself. Some studies have found that certain things are beneficial to your health where as other studies have found that the same things can be detrimental to your health." Then they will find out why in one study it was beneficial, and detrimental in another. There is no faith in science. Science is the reason why you are living the life you are living right now, in a home and not a cave, drinking clean water instead of filthy water.

Answer by Sarah Louise
I am not sure that you understand what science is. Its simply a method of understanding and testing our world and learning to make the most of it. It requires no faith. Scientists discover things and present their evidence. There is no faith involved. 1) No science does not know everything - its religion which makes that claim. 2) Yes, science adapts to new evidence - scientists have never denied this or wished to. Its religion which insists on sticking to the same story despite all evidence to the contrary. Are you putting your faith in science when you turn your computer on?
