How does it differ from true science?:
Answer by Paul M
Because it has never been proven that the position of planets has any impact on people's lives.
Answer by gintable
It is called a pseudo-science because it ISN'T a science. Astrology is a fictitious study of how the relative positions of the planets, moons, and stars affect people based exclusively off what constellation was in the Sun's direction of the sky when they were born. There is no cause relation to the effect in astrology, therefore it ISN'T a science. Astronomy is the real science. Astronomy is the method of taking measurements about the celestial bodies, and Astrophysics is the science of understanding what those measurements mean.
Answer by Kazuaki
True science begins with a hypothesis, which is then tested through various carefully controlled experiments with physical quantities that can be measured and recorded, and depending on the outcome a theory is created. Astrology began with people ascribing arbitrary qualities to celestial bodies and drawing up an equally arbitrary system by which to draw conclusions from their movements. You can tell it's a pseudoscience because it's based on signs and names rather than numbers. How can one accurately measure properties and compute outcomes with arbitrary input data?
Answer by Earth Man
There is absolutely no data behind anything to prove that it means anything. Yes, just enough for the random coincidence, but that's it. Further, if there were, theoretically, real data out there, astrology does not go about gathering it in a scientific method: Formation of hypothesis, researching literature, testing/experimenting the hypothesis over and over and over to make sure that you get the same result every time (whether your hypothesis was right or wrong, it's consistency that matters), then putting the data forth into the community for others to test the hypothesis on their own through both your method as even more proof/data, and through their own methods. If the hypothesis is true, you may continue on from there with a new, more advanced hypothesis. If it is false, you go back and reformulate a different hypothesis. This is not what astrology does, what it thinks that it believes, or how it works. It is based on believe alone, handed down traditionally, and/or made up on the spot.
