Through visualization, modeling, and multiple representations, appropriately implemented educational technologies can make scientific concepts more accessible. When developing learning strategies that address science standards, here are seven ideas for integrating technology into science for kids.

Ideas that Support Authentic Science Experiences - Items that fall into this category provide resources needed for doing each phase of authentic science activities.

1. Virtual Field Trips - Many science centers and museums, such as the American Museum of Natural History in New York, offer virtual tours of their facilities and exhibits.

2. Webcams - For the study of weather, wxnation.com includes weather radars, live outdoor webcams, and local weather forecasts for more than 100 cities.

3. Videos/DVDs - Titles such as All About Light from the Physical Science for Children Video Series available from an online school video site includes real-life demonstrations and hands-on activities.

Ideas that Support Scientific Inquiry Skills - These help students locate and obtain information to support inquiry. To be included here the item should make data collection and analysis easier and more manageable and make it easier to visualize and understand phenomena.

4. Search Engines - Use both Google and Bing and see how the results differ. Change the wording of the search phrase and see what different results occur.

Please elaborate on whether or not the GPA is weighted, includes any honors/AP/IB courses etc. Also "pretty well" is a relative term. If you are not interested in sharing a specific number it is hard to tell which schools will take you seriously. That said, it might be a reach school depending on your answers to the questions above, but Claremont McKenna College in California (one of the Claremont Colleges, an awesome idea!) has an excellent government program. You can read about it, and the stiff admission criteria, at cmc.edu. You should also visit collegeboard.org if you have not already, they have a good college match tool. Most universities calculate the GPA used for admissions purposes using only grades earned in academic classes taken during 10th and 11th grade. http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/eligibility.html Be wary of US News ratings as they do not include the quality of the faculty at the undergraduate level. In the 1st year US News did include the faculty. Berkeley was #1 and Stanford was #2. The next year they dropped the quality of the faculty as a criteria and Berkeley slipped to around #20 and has remained ever since. At some schools like Berkeley and Stanford, the same faculty teach undergraduate classes as graduate and are very accessible even in large lecture classes, holding regular office hours. This allows a student who takes the initiative to get to know a prof for a recommendation which is very important for graduate school admissions. At certain others schools including a very famous ivy league university, the star faculty do not teach undergraduates or may be named the instructor but only lecture the first two weeks and the last week and do not hold office hours. The class is taught by graduate student instructors in discussion sections the rest of the semester with a junior untenured professor in charge of the GSI's. The junior professor holds office hours. Look at the US News Graduate ratings, if the same faculty teach undergrad classes at a particular university, to determine the quality of Political Science program. http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/grad/pol/search I don't know if the same Professors teach undergrads at Ohio State but it is ranked #13. The same professors teach undergrads in all the UC schools. I cannot comment on your qualifications as I don't know how the GPA was calculated or the test scores.
