Solar Cookers - A Great Solar Energy Science Project [sciencetechnology-center.blogspot.com]
Question by Jason M: What is the difference between Computer Science and Computer Technology? I would like to go to college for building/repairing computers but I am confused about what major I should take? Science or technology? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Best answer for What is the difference between Computer Science and Computer Technology?:

Comp Tech = 40k if your lucky CS major in a senior programming role =75-100k If your going into the repair aspect then an associates or equal certification is a start. CS is going to be more programming and less hardware so whatever you feel suits your ability and desire then that's what you should pursue.

Computer Science is the study of computer systems. Computer science or computing science (abbreviated CS) is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and of practical techniques for their implementation and application in computer systems. Computer scientists invent algorithmic processes that create, describe, and transform information and formulate suitable abstractions to model complex systems. Computer science has many sub-fields; some, such as computational complexity theory, study the properties of computational problems, while others, such as computer graphics, emphasize the computation of specific results. Still others focus on the challenges in implementing computations. For example, programming language theory studies approaches to describe computations, while computer programming applies specific programming languages to solve specific computational problems, and human-computer interaction focuses on the challenges in making computers and computations useful, usable, and universally accessible to humans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_science Computer Technology is the activity of designing and constructing and programming computers Computer and Information Technology (CIT) When you study computer and information technology, you will gain skills that can help solve problems in a variety of industries, such as business, manufacturing, law enforcement or healthcare. As more data and information become accessible from individual computers and across networks, the need for information technology experts will continue to grow. You can learn how to plan, analyze, design, build, maintain and manage projects. Professors and projects will expose you to software development, systems integration, data management and computer networks. http://www.tech.purdue.edu/cit/

Solar Energy science projects have now become the most popular thing ever in most places thanks to the ease with which they can be built and the materials that they require which is available very easily to everyone. Therefore these projects can be very easily constructed with simple science. Many science competitions are filled with people and students who build devices that make use of solar energy mainly because they find it easy to build. So let's take a look at some of the various things you can build that makes use of our sun and is really useful to everyone.
One of the main things that solar energy science projects require is obviously the sun. The sun reaches out to almost all human beings on earth thus providing the fuel for our solar projects. So, when I was participating in a science competition a couple of years back, I made use of simple things and built the following devices which I think would be extremely useful for someone looking to start out wi th these projects too.
Solar Cookers are one of the most popular solar energy science projects. These cookers are available for purchase by many companies. However, they can be built very easily too. Get hold of a box that is coated with black colour on all sides and covered by a glass panel on the top. Then, get hold of a big magnifying lens and place it at an appropriate distance from the box at the top such that it faces the glass box and the sun's rays pass through the magnifying lens to reach the box. That is all you need to do for building a solar cooker. Very high temperatures can be reached with the help of this type of a solar cooker.
This is but an example of one such device that you can build for a science project. I myself have participated in many science competitions and science fairs myself and have found that projects related to our sun's energy are a big favorite for the judges. They are always impressed with the way by which free energy in the f orm of the sun can be used to do such wonderful and useful things. Just make sure that it is slightly different from the others and has something creative about it. So, I hope that this helped you in choosing your favourite and easy to build solar energy science project.
