Quality Fast and Easy Science Projects To Be Completed In One Weekend [sciencetechnology-center.blogspot.com]

In 1970, a NASA scientist wrote to a nun working with starving kids in Africa and defended costly space exploration. If you think spending money on space is a waste, read this: bit.ly This is a screen capture of the 6 minutes before and after the NASA MSL Curiosity rover landed on Mars. The entire mission control room bursts into cheers around time 5:30 upon confirmation of landing and the first images from Mars arrive around time 7:30. Alongside the NASA TV stream, I'm running the Eyes on the Solar System computer simulation (eyes.jpl.nasa.gov which was using live telemetry data from the spacecraft to show what was happening in near real-time. All of this was captured on my laptop in Australia using the ScreenFlow app, streaming the event over the 3G connection from my iPhone. See more updates and images from NASA's MSL homepage: www.nasa.gov If you see a derogatory comment below, please vote it down so that it gets removed.

There you are on a Friday evening and you realize that you can't put it off any longer, there is a science project due on Monday. Of course nothing has been started, procrastination is great until the day of no return. You need to put your hands on some fast and easy science projects and they have to be good, and pass the teacher test.

These are not easy to find. You can't just Google it and magically find what you need. Science projects that can be done quickly and are easy to do often do not meet the teacher's basic requirements. The fast ones also run the risk of not really teaching the child anything. It would just be doing it for the sake of handing it in. At least this way you have the entire weekend, so that should give you enough time to do a decent experiment.

There are some really good fast and easy science projects that can easily be completed in one weekend. There are several things to look for though.

Make sure you read the directions and kn ow the type of project this is. Is is a report? Or will it be a demonstration? Most of the time what you will need is an experiment that follows the scientific method.. Try to include your child in the process of finding an experiment. This budding scientist might have some ideas you haven't thought of. Go to the library or do a Google Search with "science projects on..." Make a list of possible projects, you might find just the project you need. Make sure you weed out the ones that are too advanced, like chemistry ones. Make sure the material needed can easily be found around your home or be bought cheaply at one of the local stores. If there are odd ball and expensive ingredients that you never heard of before, that is a clue to move to a different project. Double check the time factor you really only have two days in order to have it ready for Monday morning. Actually the ideal fast and easy science project will not take more than a few hours, in case something goes wrong and you have to do it again. And trust me, this often happens It also leaves you plenty of time for to get your write up, charts and posters made.

You will see that fast and easy science projects are not always quite so fast and easy to find, both your child will be able to work together and find a project that is fun to do, meets the teacher requirements and most importantly can be finished in one weekend.

Question by : I need help with a science experiment involving fish? I'm planning to do a science experiment involving fish this year, and I'm in grade 5. Please suggest a topic. Something not so expensive, and not so hard. Thanks! BTW I was thinking: Do Goldfish prefer to live in groups or not? Any ways I could do that? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!! I already have a Betta. This would be perfect. Thank you for giving me 15 bonus points in science! I'll give you best answer. Best answer for I need help with a science experiment involving fish?:

Answer by jogi
Goldfish are kind of expensive because ideally a goldfish needs 20 gallons to live! They are also extremely messy and produce a lot of waste, so I would steer clear of them. A fun experiment would be to get a Betta and find out how long he can hold his breath before he resurfaces to breathe. Take the readings for an hour or so and you can come up with an answer. Then, take readings at different times of the day, and collect data for about 1 week to come up with a final solution (the average). Bettas can be housed in a 5 gallon tank, make sure it is filtered and heated =) You will need - 5 gallon tank - Filter - Heater - Bottom gravel or sand - A silk plant (preferably tall) - Water conditioner - Food for your Betta - Commercial cycling bacteria - add these in with your Betta to speed up the Nitrogen cycle. - Optional Light (easier to see him)

I agree with jogi.Bettas would be a very interesting fish to experiment with.If you are going to get more than 1 betta make sure you only keep females together.Because, males always fight and often KILL eachother.

Don't use goldfish. They do prefer to live in groups, or at least pairs. A pair of fancy goldfish will need at least 40g with double the filtration because of how much waste they produce. A pair of common goldfish such as comets, shubunkins and koi will need over 900g because they can grow up to be around 12-18" with the proper care. I recommend breeding livebearers. Practically anyone can do it because they breed so much. You could base your experiment off of what specific colours you can get by breeding specific colours of livebearers. I suggest you choose one: guppies, swordtails, platies, endlers or mollies. Mollies grow larger than other livebearers and are brackish, so you'll need a larger tank than you would need for the others. If you choose to breed guppies, swordtails, platies or endlers (I recommend you choose one as it'll be easier), this is what you'll need: *At least a 20g tank *Three females and one male (aggression occurs when you have more males than females) *One 20g filter at least *One 20g adjustable heater (the temperature should be around 80F) *A thermometer to monitor the temperature with *Some kind of substrate such as gravel or sand (gravel is easier to clean, sand is more attractive) *Live plants and/or fake plants (live plants are better but I understand if you don't want other things to care for than just the fish) *Smooth caves/rocks/flowerpots that the fish can dart in and out of for fun *A water siphon to perform water changes with (trust me, it's so much easier than taking cup after cup and running back and forth from the sink) *Knowledge about the nitrogen cycle. I recommend you read the sites below to help you. http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/Cycling http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm The aquarium needs to be cycled before you add any fish. This can take up to six weeks, so make sure you have time. If not, there are products you can buy to speed up the cycle such as "Stability" which is manufactured by Seachem. Now, a new 20g tank, filter and heater from PetSmart/PetCo/any other large box store may cost you a couple hundred dollars. I for one got my 20g with a filter and heater for around $ 130. The substrate, fish, food, plants and decorations will cost extra, obviously. If you want to do this properly, you should buy another tank, around 10g or more to raise the fry in. This aquarium must be cycled as well. If you're not interested in doing that, then you can bring a somewhat large container and fill it with water from the main tank and keep the fry in there for a little bit. You can raise the fry for a month in a separate aquarium before moving them back to the main tank. You could do this experiment, or you can see how many fry survive in the main tank while keeping it heavily planted so that they have places to hide.
