I guess what is necessary is that you demonstrate that you have higher order thinking skills in relation to maths and science. You need to think creatively about how mathematical and scientific processes are a part of your life and thinking. What things are you involved in in your life outside of education that are mathematical or scientific? Do you participate in any hobbies that have enhanced your skills in these areas? What are you involved in that calls for you to analyse, predict, experiment etc.? For example, first aid certificate (biology), gardening or construction (maths processes involved here, estimating and so on), personal finances and dealing with data, sports and fitness activities. Think creatively and reflect on how the areas of science and maths study are relevant and impact on your life.

It would be great to go to a math or science summer program at a top college--I know Columbia and Johns Hopkins have very good programs, though tons more collegs offer them. You can apply to national and regional science fairs You could also START your own math or science club at school.
